Cleaning & Maintenance

Page Background Image

Our table tops and table bases are built to work hard. Family dinners. Backyard barbecues. Office lunches. The occasional questionable dance move.

A little care goes a long way. Here’s how to keep everything looking good and doing its job for years to come.

Folding Bases – Lift Smart

This one’s simple.

Always carry folding tables by the frame or base.
Not the tabletop.

Why?
Because the frame is designed to take the weight. Lifting by the tabletop puts unnecessary stress on the screws and fittings underneath.
Do it often enough and you’ll shorten the life of the table.

Whether the table is folded or set up, grab the base and give the tabletop a break.

Your table will thank you. In its own silent table-like way.

Aluminium – Easy Living

Aluminium table base is popular for a reason.
It’s lightweight, durable and naturally rust-resistant, making it a great choice for Australian conditions. It doesn’t ask for much, but a little maintenance helps keep it looking its best.

Cleaning
Cleaning aluminium furniture is refreshingly uncomplicated.
Mix mild detergent with warm water. A splash of washing-up liquid is perfect.
Wipe down with a cloth or sponge, or simply hose it off then rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards.
That’s about it.

Maintenance
A few simple habits will help maximise the lifespan of your furniture.
Cover furniture when not in use.
Suitable for temperatures between -30°C and +60°C.
Clean up spills as soon as possible, especially red wine, sauces and strongly coloured foods.
Avoid sanding, scouring pads or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish and may void the warranty.

Powder-Coated Steel – Indoor & Alfresco Ready

Powder-coated steel is strong, stylish and built to last when looked after properly.

Cleaning
Wipe spills immediately.
Use a soft cloth with warm soapy water.
Wring excess water from the cloth before cleaning.
Dry thoroughly after wiping.

Maintenance
Dust regularly to prevent build-up.
Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor alfresco use.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly on table legs and frames.

A bit of routine care beats trying to fix years of neglect.
Much cheaper too.

Cast Iron – Build Like a Tank

Cast iron furniture has been around for generations for a reason. It’s incredibly strong, wonderfully sturdy and not particularly interested in being blown around by a bit of wind.
That said, cast iron appreciates a little attention.

Cleaning
Wipe down regularly with a soft cloth and mild soapy water.
Rinse with clean water if required.
Dry thoroughly after cleaning.

Maintenance
Keep painted surfaces clean and dry.
Touch up any chips or scratches in the paint as soon as possible to help prevent rust.
Cover furniture when not in use, particularly in coastal areas.
Avoid standing water collecting on surfaces for extended periods.
Check bolts and fixings occasionally to ensure everything remains secure.

Cast iron is tough. Really tough. But even the toughest furniture prefers a bit of care rather than being left out to battle the elements indefinitely.

Stainless Steel – Tough, But Not Invincible

Stainless steel has a reputation for being practically indestructible. Fair enough too. It’s strong, durable and highly resistant to corrosion, making it a popular choice for both indoor and outdoor settings.

But despite the name, stainless steel isn’t completely stain-proof. A little care helps keep it looking its best.

Cleaning
Clean regularly using warm water and a mild detergent.
Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Dry with a soft cloth to minimise water spots and streaks.

Maintenance
Remove salt spray, dirt and environmental build-up regularly, particularly in coastal areas.
Wipe up spills as soon as possible.
Avoid steel wool, wire brushes or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the surface and encourage corrosion.
Avoid prolonged contact with harsh chemicals, bleach or acidic cleaners.
Check fittings and fasteners periodically to ensure they remain secure.

Stainless steel is remarkably durable, but even it appreciates the occasional clean. Think of it like a reliable ute. It’ll keep going for years, but it’s happier if you wash the mud off every now and then.

At the end of the day, furniture doesn’t ask for much.
Keep it clean. Lift it properly. Deal with spills before they become permanent residents.
Do that, and you’ll get years of reliable service from it.
It’s not exactly a complicated maintenance schedule. Which is good. Most of us have better things to do than spend our weekends polishing table legs.
